 Case Study
Times Union Center for the Performing Arts

Founded in 1949, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra is one of Florida’s most long-standing Orchestras. Its success has been defined by the Palm Beach Post as “the standard to which all other Florida orchestras should strive.” This orchestra had been performing in Jacksonville’s Civic Auditorium which was built in the 1960s. The city renovated the auditorium with plans to add a smaller symphony hall. The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra’s board wanted to expand the hall and build a state-of-the-art performance center, but was challenged to raise the $9,000,000 required to do so.

The board invited Danny Berenberg and to assist in fundraising. Danny was able to identify key donors and helped to shape the campaign. He also encouraged the board to raise the bar and go after more funding than it had initially considered.

With Danny’s help, the Board was able to raise the goal of the campaign and successfully brought in over $18,000,000. The funds were used to build a new 1800 seat venue. Naming rights were secured by the Jacksonville Times Union, and the orchestra has enjoyed its new home while improving attendance and enhancing the quality of performances.

"Danny was a very active partner in the fund-raising campaign. Not only did he help us define key prospects, but he actually made calls personally to solicit support. I found him to be a tremendously valuable resource."
Carl N. Cannon, Former President, Jacksonville Symphony
